Cuidiú Classes - Effective Education for Birth and Parenting
(Click here for list of teachers in Dublin, Cork, Leinster and Munster)
The classes aim to provide information on all aspects of pregnancy and giving birth to assist you to make your own informed choices.
The classes aim to empower you and your birth partner to be confident in your ability to give birth with a wide variety of skills and knowledge.
The courses are small, relaxed and informal - frequently held in the teacher's own home, likely to be at a time that suits you, with plenty of time for topics of your choice.
The emphasis is on group participation and on gaining practical skills that will help you during labour. Plenty of time is also given over to questions.
Courses also cover what to expect in the early days of parenting, such as feeding and the emotional aspects of coping with a new baby.
Our qualified teachers hold a license to practice from Cuidiú. Most of them have obtained a Diploma in Higher Education from Luton University in conjunction with the National Childbirth Trust in the UK or an equivalent qualification.
Their role is to offer support, information, practical skills and resources to parents to help them make more informed choices. They are not qualified to offer medical advice and we would always recommend you speak to your midwife or doctor on specific medical issues.
Formats of antenatal classes available
The ethos of Cuidiú is that we teach small groups in order to facilitate group discussions, activities etc. Courses are usually 6 – 8 weeks long with a postnatal reunion after the babies are born.
Most teachers offer a variety of classes, such as six week course, Saturday classes, private classes and refresher classes.
For more information on the classes themselves, please see the Frequently Asked Questions.
Antenatal Support
Before you even have your baby and become a parent, Cuidiú has much to offer. Anyone is welcome to attend any of our meetings before the birth of their baby.
It can be very valuable to talk to other Mums who have given birth. Meetings are held in an informal setting, where you can chat to other mums and listen to their experiences. By tapping into our network of support before you have your baby, it can be much easier to ask for support in the early days at home with your new baby.
By talking to us while you are still pregnant, we will help you decipher myth from reality and hopefully help you to realise that, although very hard work, having a baby can be one of the most rewarding and joyous occasions of your life!
